Looking for simple ways to freshen up your portable cabin or indoor space? Indoor plants are a great way to enhance any living space. Plants bring colour, life, texture, and scent to your home.

Whether you’re renting a cabin or decorating your home or office space, the addition of one or two indoor plants can help transform any room.

If you’re considering investing in indoor plants for your portable cabin, it’s important to choose plants that will thrive in your environment. Read on to find out the top must-have plants for growing indoors!

1. Maidenhair Fern

A classic and popular indoor plant, Maidenhair Ferns are a great way to dress up your portable cabin or indoor space.

Maidenhair ferns have delicate fan-shaped leaf segments, typically clustered on wiry black stems, and their leaves are smaller than other types of ferns. Maidenhair Ferns are stunning throughout all stages of their growth. They are considered a slow-growing fern, can take up to three years to reach maturity.

The Maidenhair Fern comes in a range of textures and sizes, so you can choose the right size and style to suit your portable cabin.

Plant care: Keep in a bright spot, water frequently.

2. Snake Plant

If you’re new to indoor plants, a snake plant is a great starter-plant. Snake plants, also known as ‘Mother in Law’s Tongue’, don’t need much attention. Snake plants can be neglected for weeks at a time – and they’ll still look fresh.

Snake plants can also help clean the air and remove toxins – making them the perfect house plant.

Plant care: Keep your snake plant in indirect sunlight. Water infrequently – give the plant time to dry out in-between watering.

3. Chain of Hearts

If you prefer a “less is more” approach when it comes to caring for house plants – you can’t go wrong with a Chain of Hearts.

This plant is named after the heart-shaped leaves that grow on wispy stems. The Chain of Hearts looks great on a high shelf, so the long vines have room to trail.

Best of all, Chain of Hearts go dormant in winter, so even less care and attention is required over the cooler seasons!

Plant care: Keep in a well-lit spot, away from direct sunlight. Allow the soil to dry in-between waterings.

4. Aloe Vera

You may know that Aloe Vera has healing properties, but did you know that it also helps purify air? This makes Aloe Vera an appealing choice for a small space like a portable cabin.

Aloe Vera is a type of succulent. This stemless plant has thick, greenish fleshy leaves that fan out from the plant’s stem.

Aloe Vera is a low maintenance plant and that is very easy to care for.

Plant care: Keep in a sunny spot. Water only when the top of the soil becomes completely dry.

5. Monstera Deliciosa

The Monstera has seen a growth in popularity over recent years. This is due to the big glossy leaves, large size, and relatively low-maintenance care requirements.

Montsera like a lot of space, so make sure they have room to grow. They prefer humid conditions and a brightly lit spot. However, direct sunlight can burn their leaves, so keep out of direct sunlight.

Dust can build up on the Monstera’s leaves, so it does need regular cleaning with a clean cloth.

Plant care: Keep in a bright, humid spot, with indirect light. Water every 1-2 weeks.

How to use plants to enhance your rental cabin
