About RoomMate Cabins Horowhenua & Kapiti
RoomMate Cabins are the original and largest cabin supplier in New Zealand, and pride ourselves on our first-class service and professionalism.
Our region encompasses the Horowhenua District (from Foxton down to Manakau including Levin and Shannon) as well as the Kapiti Coast District (from Otaki down to Paekakariki).
We respond to requests promptly with information about costs and estimated delivery times and, if needed, we do a site visit to check access and placement of the rental cabin.
Cabins are delivered on a purpose-built trailer that tips allowing the cabin to roll onto the ground. Once off the trailer the cabin can be rolled into position on pipes. Sometimes we use a hiab to lift a cabin into place.
Our cabins are:
- Made of sustainable natural materials – with a shadow-clad timber exterior, timber framing and plywood interior (no crying walls!).
- Stable and easy to access – cabins sit on a steel frame (not wheels or caravan jacks) and are very close to the ground. No big step-up is needed to get in and out. Movement caused by wind and footfall is almost non-existent.
- Fully insulated – with Batts in the walls and ceiling cavity as well as under floor insulation. It takes very little to warm our cabins on winter days.
- WINZ approved – RoomMate Cabins is a WINZ approved accommodation provider.
- Electrically certified – electrical certifications are renewed every 4 years by a qualified electrician. Cabins come with a 15 metre cord which connect to a standard house plug. The cabin comes with power points and lights.
- Built to the Building Code
- Insurance compliant – our cabins are insurance compliant.
*We do NOT use refrigeration paneling (Insulated Sandwich Paneling or ISP) because they ‘cry’ in cold and damp winter conditions leading to mildew.
*We also do not use monolithic cladding because it makes cabins prone to leaking.
*Most insurance companies won’t insure ISP or monolithic cabins for these reasons.

RoomMate Cabins Manawatu Limited is a proud sponsor of the Philips Search and Rescue Trust and as well as being a sponsor, we provide a cabin at their Rescue Helicopter base at Palmerston North Hospital for pilots to rest in between jobs.
In addition, we supply cabins to the NZ Rural Games as well as supporting local youth based sporting events.

Get to know us
Owners Steve and Lisa Rodgers have owned the Manawatu franchise since September 2019 and the Horowhenua & Kapiti area since 2024. Steve manages all customer enquiries, leasing and administration for the business with assistance from Lisa and Max.
Our drivers Danny and Paul run the yard from Feilding and are our friendly customer faces on the ground.
