Business from Home
Sep 16, 2021
Renting a portable cabin is a great way to start a home-based business. We are always amazed at how stunning the cabins look when styled and set-up, ready for business.
Having a cabin as your base means that you have flexibility with your work hours, your family, and your lifestyle.
Georgie Smith and her husband Greg have removed the running of their RoomMate Cabins franchise from their house.
“Greg manages it all from the cabin, which feels like a bit of a luxury, and our home is just that…home, and a chance to switch off from it all. Working from home is so productive and means I also get to be there for the moments that really matter with our boys.
“I’m really lucky to have an amazing boss that makes it possible and sees the difference it makes for that ‘balance’ we’re always searching for. It’s the perfect solution for the extra space we need to get the best out of life.”
Coastguard New Zealand
Georgie, who is also Head of Marketing & Communications for Coastguard New Zealand, also saw an opportunity during the Covid-19 lockdown.
“Coming home with an extra screen, a laptop, printer and my beloved post-its and sharpies, my mind was boggled at how I could continue to lead a team and be productive amongst the chaos with our little lads (2 and 4) and yet embrace the gift that was quality time together as a family because of isolation.”
Fast forward to 2021 and Georgie continues to work from home at least two days a week.
Tame X Barber
We were proud to see one of our RoomMate Cabins feature in the inspiring story of Tongan dad Tame Taufa on Tagata Pasifika recently. He is the man behind Tame X Barber, a barbershop based out of a RoomMate Cabin in front of his home in the far north town of Kaitaia.
He started his own business so he can be closer to his children, all while offering a service to men in the Far North.
“My kids have some difficulties and challenges, and I want to be there to help them go through it rather than being too busy at work.”
“To see my kids happy and to be a part of their life while they’re young is a blessing for me and when we look back at these memories, they’ll see that my wife and I were part of their lives during this time.”
“Six months ago, I made one of the best decisions ever. With four kids under five, working from home in Level 3 is challenging to say the least. The arrival of our twin boys last year relegated my office to the garage and this time around I decided enough was enough.
“I know a few things about tiny homes and modular buildings, putting two and two together, I have now saved my space problem.
“As a Director of a local government firm acting for councils up and down Aotearoa, it goes without saying that we have to be mobile. All of our people work a day from home and now I have the tools to do the same.
Thanks RoomMate Cabins for allowing me to work despite having twice as many children as last time we were in Level 4!”
We’re not just cabins, we do great service too! Our operators love helping people create their home-based businesses. They’re full of useful advice and are happy to just have a chat and discuss whether renting a cabin is a good option for you.
